Reflecting on 2020 & Plans for 2021

I am not sure if we’re still allowed to say ‘Happy New Year’ in February. Growing up in a black community means saying Happy New Year till about mid- February. So, Happy New Year my fellow Determinists. I hope you are all well, rested, vision boards are up and ready to take on the year.

Living in a pandemic is something none of us had ever experienced before. It was and still is foreign. Trying to achieve the goals we had set for ourselves at the beginning of “20plenty” was an extreme sport. Some succeeded, some didn’t and that is perfectly fine. Being here, today & having survived 2020 is THE GOAL. My deepest condolences to everyone that lost a loved one last year, COVID-19 related or not. May your hearts be at ease.

Apart from losing so many I knew and loved last year, it is safe to say I had a good year. It was difficult, but good. I only had one goal at the beginning of last year and that was to pass my 2nd year at University and I did just that. Adjusting to Online learning at the beginning of the pandemic was stressful. Having been exposed to proximate learning all my life that is where I excelled the most. I longed for the face 2 face interactions, never-ending debates between lectures & students which I stood in the side lines of and just took notes. I even missed the library, the quick ‘umgowo’ talks we would have bumping into each other on campus. Despite all of that, I made it through. God – wiling, this year will be my 3rd and final year of my undergraduate studies. As much as this is very exciting, I am low-key freaking out. However, I am going to do it.

Starting a blog was something I had never thought of, ever. Sometimes I can’t believe that I actually did it. I could not be more proud of the work I put in to make this blog which is now a brand success. None of this would be possible without you guys. Everyone who subscribed to the blog, followed on social media & shared. I will always be grateful for the unwavering support I received in such a short space of time.

In 2020, we are bringing out the big guns. Top of the list, I am really pushing for the monetization of the blog. The good sis needs to secure the bag. An amazing IG series will take flight in the 2nd half of the year where we will be having insightful and impactful conversations that will prompt action to change. Something new and exciting will be starting next week, Monday the 8th. Watch out for that on our social media platforms. For this one, I am going to needs all hands on deck. The goal is to reach 1000 followers at the end of the year. To do this, I am going to need all the help I can get. Please do not tire from sharing blog information. It helps and is highly appreciated. Last but not least, if you watched my live interview with Kebaabetswe Sepanya last year, you would know that I gave her an exclusive. If you haven’t, please go check it out. The exclusive be coming to life very soon. , stay glued to our social media paged to find out.

Once again, ndiyabulela. I hope everyone is fuelled up and ready to hit the ground running if they haven’t. To those who have. Keep on keeping on. Blog posts remain on Thursdays at 13:00 fortnightly. New year, same posting schedule. I look forward to a year of learning and unlearning with you guys.

As usual, please feel free to comment down below how 2020 treated you, what you’re most excited about in your life this year & what 2021 blog plan you are most excited about. 5. 2020 was not the best nor the worst year. I had to unlearn, adapt and learn a lot mostly about myself, it was a tough one but it made embrace each moment of my life whether it brings a smile or not it deserves my attention so that I can be aware of it and then move on. In 2021, I am looking forward to all the exciting things that are in place for me.

Mid-year Check-in

Mid-year check-in blog post. I haven’t done this in a while, mainly because life was happening for me and I needed to prioritize. Between school, work and the blog my plate was life and I couldn’t commit to everything at once. Getting my degree is my number one priority and I had to put all my energy towards that. It is the semester break and I couldn’t wait to get back into blogging. I missed this part of my life.   Today’s blog post is a mid-year check in. Like most people, I sat down and worked on my vision board at the beginning of the year. I had short, medium and long term goals on there. Creating a vision board is all fun but that’s not where the work stops. We actually need to have systems in place to help us achieve these goals. Right before I sat down to pen this blog post, I went through my vision board to see how far I have come regarding my goals in the first 6 months of the year and to be honest, I am happy with my overall progress. I broke down my vi...

Her artistry focuses on enhancing her client’s beauty so they don’t feel completely...

Embracing Our Blackness

The title of this blog post is a double entendre and we are going to explore both meanings. Firstly, it means embracing the actual colour of your skin. Secondly, it means embracing the fact that you are a black woman, no matter your skin colour.   For years, being black was shunned upon. Being black and dark in skin colour was even worse. Our ancestors walked through hell for us. They endured endless humiliation about their race, skin colour, hair, how they spoke & body features. The sad part is that all of this is still very much prevalent in present day South Africa. It might not be at the same extent, but it still does exist. 27 years later and we’re still subject to such discrimination.   We cannot control how and what other races think about us, but we can control how and what we think about ourselves. What we’re not going to do in 2021 is inflict self-hate because of other people’s opinions. We are BOLD. We are BEAUTIFUL. We are BRILLIANT. We are BLACK...
